The Watauga Junior American Legion team will officially begin its season on Thursday, May 24 at home against McDowell in a double-header. Watauga plays at McDowell the following night. And unlike last year, Watauga will field only one team this season. Last year, Watauga fielded an "A" team, made up of high school players, and a "B" team, made up of

rising freshmen. Bradley Rudisill returns for his second season. He coached the "A" team last year and led them to the playoffs. Watauga lost to A.C. Reynolds in the first round.
Watauga will play a 32-game schedule. The season ends on July 1. The Pioneers will play Hibriten, Fred T. Foard, Patton, Bunker Hill, Maiden, Alexander Central, South Caldwell, East Burke, and West Caldwell. All games will be five-inning double-headers. All home games will be played at Watauga High School.
"We have a big league," Rudisill said. "We're going to play a lot of games, and we'll be young."
The home opener with McDowell on Thursday, May 24, begins at 6 p.m., at WHS.
