Hagerstown Sweeps Series With 8-6 Win PDF Print

Jeremy Williams hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as the Hickory Crawdads came up short against the Hagerstown Suns, 8-6 at L.P. Frans Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Crawdads (19-17), mired in a four-game losing streak, fell behind by scores of 1-0 and 6-2

before they staged a rally in the seventh inning.  Jordan Akins and Jhonny Gomez drew back-to-back walks to put runners at first and second with nobody out to start the inning. Chris Grayson followed with an RBI single that scored Akins, and Hanser Alberto knocked in another run with a base hit one out later to make it 6-4. And RBI single by Williams, who had three runs-batted-in on the night, cut the lead to one at 6-5.
But Steven Souza, who had a big night on Tuesday, hurt the Crawdads again as he drove in two runs down the stretch. He led off the eighth with a solo home run that made it 7-5; and he drove in another run with an run-scoring fielder's choice in the ninth that gave the Suns (21-15) a three-run cushion. Souza finished with four runs-batted-in to pace the Suns.
Following Williams' solo home run in the ninth, the Crawdads put runners at first and second with two outs. Drew Robinson singled and Zach Cone reached on an error. But Aaron Barrett struck out Kellin Deglan to end the game.
