Forward Amile Jefferson, a 6-8 forward from Friend's Central School in Philadelphia, Pa., has announced he will attend Duke University next sesason. Jefferson is one of nation's top basketball recruits. He is ranked 25th in the country by ESPN and 22nd by Rivals. Jefferson considered scholarship offers from North Carolina State, Duke, Kentucky, Villanova, and

Ohio State.
"They value academics," said Jefferson. "I don't think they have a player at my position or a guy like me at Duke right now and I hope to bring an energy and a passion to the school and basketball team."
Jefferson joins Rasheed Sulaimon, the top shooting guard in the country, in Duke's incoming class.

 


CVCC ADVANCES TO JUCO WORLD SERIES

 


The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team has advanced to the Division II Junior College World Series in Enid, Okla. CVCC advanced after knocking off Brunswick Monday night. Pedro Benavidas of Avery High is a member of CVCC baseball team. The JUCO D-II World Series begins Saturday, May 26.
