Gnats top 'Dads, 8-4 PDF Print

The Savannah Sand Gnats topped the Hickory Crawdads, 8-4, before 3,146 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday evening. A five-run third inning gave Savannah a commanding 5-0 lead. Charley Thurber and Albert Cordero started the inning by hitting back-to-back home runs. Then with the bases loaded and one out, Travis Taijeron and Brian Harrison had

consecutive run-scoring singles that made it 4-0; Aderlin Rodriguez closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly. The Crawdads chipped away with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Chris Grayson drove in Jhonny Gomez with an RBI single to right-center field and darted to second base on a fielding error by Taijeron. Grayson moved to third on a ground out before he scored scoring on a two-out, RBI single by Hanser Alberto that made it, 5-2.
A two-run homer by Taijeron in the fifth gave the Sand Gnats a 7-2 lead. The Sand Gnats (22-13) added another run in the seventh. An RBI double by Jeremy Williams of the Crawdads (19-14) made it 8-3; and the Crawdads staged an uprising in the ninth. Zach Cone led off the inning with a double and quickly moved to third on a ground out. Cone scored on an RBI grounder by Gomez to close out the scoring. Jerad Eickhoff (4-3) coughed up five earned runs in four innings and suffered the loss.
