Mountaineers Inks Eight Wrestling Recruits PDF Print

Appalachian State University wrestling head coach JohnMark Bentley announced the signing of eight new recruits on Friday. These newcomers have signed National Letters of Intent and join three early-signing commitments as members of the 2012-13 squad. Cody Boswell - Burlington, N.C. - Southern Alamance - 165: Boswell won the 2012 North Carolina Class

4-A championship at 160 pounds. He is a four-time all-conference honoree and two-time regional champion. Boswell finished his high-school career with a 126-38 record after going 38-2 in his senior year. Dylan Cottrell - Spencer, W.Va. - Roane County - 149/157: Cottrell is a four-time West Virginia Class AA/A state champion as well as a four-time conference and regional champion. In 2012, he finished as runner-up at the NHSCA Senior Nationals. He was named the 2012 Most Outstanding Wrestler for Class AA/A and received the 2012 Robert Dutton Award, presented annually to the best W.Va. wrestler by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. A four-time all-American, Cottrell went 43-1 in his senior season and posted a career mark of 182-4. Cottrell was also an all-state football player, playing downs as quarterback, running back, wide receiver, cornerback, punt/kick returner and punter.
Denzel Dejournette - Winston-Salem, N.C. - R.J. Reynolds - 285: Dejournette is a two-time all-state honoree and a two-time North Carolina state placewinner, including a runner-up performance in 2012. He was named his team's most-improved wrestler in back-to-back seasons, and off the mat, he excelled on the gridiron as an all-conference defensive lineman.
Zach Kechter - Virginia Beach, Va. - Salem - 141: Kechter is a two-time NHSCA all-American, three-time all-state honoree, three-time all-region selection and four-time all-district wrestler. He was named team MVP in three different seasons and capped off his career with a 160-20 record, setting a school record for career victories.
Andre Nie - Greensboro, N.C. - Dudley - 125: Nie is a four-time North Carolina state qualifier and three-time state placewinner. He was named the News & Record (Greensboro, N.C.) All-Area Wrestler of the Year after going 44-3 in his senior year and winning the Class 4-A state championship at 126 pounds. Nie also won the Midwest Regional championship and is a three-time NHSCA Senior Nationals qualifier. Vito Pasone III - Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - Wilkes-Barre - 125: Pasone, a 2012 NHSCA Senior Nationals champion, is a three-time all-American, four-time district champion and a 2012 regional champion. He posted a career record of 147-15 and is a three-time regional and two-time Pennsylvania state placewinner, including his second-place finish in 2012. Pasone was also a member of the Keystone Brawlers, which took runner-up honors at the Scholastic Duals at Disney.
Tyler Radford - Marion, N.C. - Marion - 197:Radford is a 2012 North Carolina 4A state champion and a two-time all-conference honoree. He posted a high-school record of 134-22, including an unbeaten 54-0 as a senior. Radford won the '12 state title by defeating fellow recruit Dejournette, 18-13, in the finals of the 220-pound class. He also played one season on the football team, earning all-conference honors while being named team defensive MVP.
Brian Sergi - Pacheco, Calif. - College Park - 133: Sergi captured the 2012 California Interscholastic Federation championship at 138 pounds and is a three-time North Coast Section champion. He posted a team mark for most wins (43) during his senior season and was named the team's light-weight MVP in his junior and senior seasons. Sergi is also a two-time Junior Greco-Roman Nationals all-American.
