Mountaineers Eliminated at SoCon Tournament PDF Print

The Appalachian State University softball team dropped a 4-0 decision to Elon in an elimination game Friday afternoon at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium. Winning pitcher Erin O'Shea fired a two-hit shutout. Elon advances on to

play College of Charleston in an elminiation game at 5 p.m. this afternoon. The Mountaineers finish their season at 22-25.
O'Shea went the distance, walked two and struck out four. She also hit a batter. Offensively, the Phoenix (24-26) hit three home runs on Friday afternoon. Danielle Lafferty belted a two-run homer in the second inning that gave the Phoenix a 2-0 lead; Carleigh Nester hit a solo shot in the third, and Tomeka Watson homered in the fifth.
Megan Rembielak and Riley Carter had the ASU hits; the Apps, who didn't score a run in their last 14 innings of tournament play, were held to three hits in their last two games.
Caitlin Wainright suffered the loss. She coughed up three runs, all earned, on two hits (both hits were home runs). She walked and struck out one.
