The Savannah Sand Gnats topped the Hickory Crawdads, 7-2, before 2,844 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday night. The Sand Gnats (21-12) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the sixth inning. The Savannah scored a run in the first,

added another run in the fifth and finally pulled away with three more runs in the sixth. Brandon Brown led off with a double and scored on an RBI double by Cam Maron.  After a walk to T.J. Rivera, both runners moved to second and third on a wild pitch. Losing pitcher Luke Jackson struck out the next batter, but Travis Taijeron walked to load the bases. Jackson registered another strikeout before Brian Harrison placed a two-out, two-run single to left-center field that gave Savannah its five-run lead.
The Crawdads (18-13) finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Walks to Chris Grayson and Rougned Odor put runners at first and second with one out. Hanser Alberto then bounced into a fielder's choice, which led to a throwing error by second baseman T.J. Rivera that allowed Grayson to score.
Hickory edged closer in the bottom of the seventh. Jeremy Williams led off with a single that got by left fielder Greg Pron, allowing Williams to reach third base.  He scored one out later on Trever Adams RBI single to center field making it 5-2.
But Savannah scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to put the contest away.  A sacrifice fly by Pron in the eighth made it 6-2; an RBI double by Dutsin Lawley in the ninth made it 7-2. Three Savannah pitcher held the Crawdads to just three hits.
