The Ashe County High women's soccer team marched its way into second-round play in the state playoffs Tuesday night. The Huskies (15-4-1) defeated Newton-Conover 4-0 in a first-round Class 2A state playoff game. Karanda Weaver

scored the game's first goal putting the Huskies on top to stay. Kebrina Keys scored twice for Ashe County; Aspen Domske scored the other Ashe County goal. The Huskies, who defeated West Caldwell in a first-round game last year, will play either Cuthbertson (15-4-1) or Salisbury (10-6-1) in a second-round game Saturday night.
The Watauga High women's soccer team, which opens the state playoffs at home tonight against McDowell at 6 p.m., will play A.C. Reynolds in a second-round game Friday night, if the Pioneers (11-6-1) advance. A.C. Reynolds, which will be hosting Prom Niight on Saturday, defeated West Mecklenburg 8-0 in a first-round game at home Tuesday night. Shenny Lenhart had three goals and an assist to pace the Rockets (17-4-3). Lenhart now has 38 goals this season, and 103 in her career. She has signed with UNC-Asheville, a Division I school and a member of the Big South Conference.
