The Southern Conference's softball coaches recognized five Appalachian State University student-athletes on their 2012 all-conference teams, the league office announced on Monday. Program history was made with three first-

team selections, senior shortstop Megan Rembielak, junior outfielder Allie Cashion and freshman utility player Sarah Warnock, who was also named Freshman of the Year and an all-freshman selection. Senior catcher Michelle Lighton was named to second-team and third baseman Caroline Rogers earned all-freshman honors.
Warnock hit .386 during the regular season, including a .403 batting average during conference play. The Jamestown, N.C., native tallied 54 hits and 13 RBI in her freshman campaign and was second on the Mountaineer squad with nine doubles. She recorded a .450 slugging percentage and a .442 on-base percentage.
Cashion earned her second-straight first-team honor by being not only one of the top hitter in the conference but in the nation. She ranked in the top-30 in the nation for the entire year in home runs per game, RBI per game, slugging percentage and home runs. She also led the SoCon in slugging percentage (.872), ranked second in on base percentage (.507) and home runs (16). The Waxhaw, N.C. native, ranked fourth in batting average (.408) and fifth in runs batted in (50) and walks (23). The junior is ASU's all-time career RBI leader with 139 and broke her own single season record of 46 with 50 RBIs.
Rembielak garnered her first first-team honor as she was named second-team in 2010. She stole 19 bags to lead the team and ranked third in the league. She also led the team with 57 hits and is just five away from breaking her career season best of 61 in 2010. Rembielak ended the season as one of the toughest hitter to strikeout as she only struck out seven times in 144 at bats.
Lighton earned her third second-team catcher honor as she batted .311 in league play and .212 for the season. She was one of the most feared catchers as only 17 runners attempted to steal a base and eight of those runners were thrown out. The senior from Chesapeake, Va., tallied 21 hits with nine extra base hits.
Rogers recorded seven home runs in her rookie campaign to help earn all-freshman honors. She compiled a .261 average at the dish with a .493 slugging percentage and a .333 on base percentage. The Suwanee, Ga. native, started all 44 games at third base with 84 assists.
The Mountaineers are set to host the 2012 Southern Conference Softball Championships from May 9-12 and will take on the #4-seed UNCG on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
