The Watauga High women's soccer team closed out the regular season on a disappointing note Friday night. Hickory, which nailed down the No.2 seed overall in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference standings, bested WHS 3-0 Friday night at home. The Pioneers (11-6-1 9 overall; 7-4-1 NW3A/4A), despite the loss, are still the No.1 seed among the Class 4A

schools in the league.
"The final score doesn't reflect the match," said WHS coach Brittany Bolick. "We are going to take tonight effort and get ready for the state playoffs.  I thought this was the best our girls looked and played but we just could not put one in the back of the net. We looked and were the better team but could not finish."
The Pioneers gave up an own goal; Sirey Sevilla and Jackie Lomboy scored for the Red Tornadoes. The playoff pairs are due out Monday; WHS will play a home match Wednesday night, possibly against the No.2 seed from the Southwestern 4A Conference. Both teams ended the regular season with hard fought matches.
The JV team played Hickory to a scoreless tie.
