Late Rally Saves WHS Soccer PDF Print

It took nearly the entire game, but the Watauga High women's soccer team finally found the net and rallied to beat McDowell 2-1 in a non-conference game at Jack Groce Stadium Thursday night. Trailing 1-0 six minutes in, the PIoneers

finally broke through on Hannah Younger's goal at the 65-minute mark of the second half. Molly Wells got the assist off a corner kick on the play. Kendyl Baird scored the game-winner five minutes later at the 70-minute mark on a long ball by Lydia Mauney. The Pioneers (11-5-1) wlll wrap up the regular season tonight with a road game at Hickory. The state playoff pairings will be announced Mondayu
The WHS JV team defeated McDowell, 3-0. Marcie Mahoney scored all three goals. She tallied her first goal in the first half; she scored twice in the second half.
