MANIS STEPS DOWN AT AVERY PDF Print

Bo Manis has resigned as men's basketball coach at Avery High. Manus, who was named Western Highland's 1A/2A Conference Coach of the Year during his tenure, will step down after four years with the program. The Vikings were 4-20 last season; Manis led the Vikings to one winning season (14-10 in 2011) and to the state playoffs twice

(2010 and 2011).....Taccoa Bracket of McDowell High has signed her National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Brevard College next season. Brevard is a Division II school in Brevard, N.C., and a member of the South Atlantic Conference. Bracket was named the co-Player of the Year in the Mountain Athletic 3A/4A Conference last season. She averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and two steals a game last year for the Titans. The Pioneers will play a home-and-home with McDowell next season. The Pioneers travel to Marion on Tuesday, December 4; the Titans invade Lentz-Eggers Gym on Tuesday, December 11. The teams haven't played each other since the 2008-09 season. Last year's scheduled game in Boone was snowed out.
