WHS Track Wraps Up Regular Season Saturday PDF Print

The Watauga High men's and women's track teams wrapped up the regular season by posting a pair of second-place finishes at the High Country Invitational at Jack Groce Stadium Saturday afternoon. Both the men's and women's teams won five events apiece. The WHS women won the 4x800-meter relay (10:04,39) and the 4x400 relay (4:12.86). Taylor Drummonds won teh 100-meter low hurdles in 15.75; Hailey Middlebrook captured the 1,600-meter run in 5:25.29; Anna Schulz-Coulon won the 800-meter run in 2:24.45.
The WHS men won the 4x800 relay (8:52.81); Reid Harris won two events, the pole vault (14-feet, six inches) and the 100-meter dash (11.13 seconds); Josh Anderson won the 3,200 (10:23.47) and Stephen Schmal
won the 200 (23.10).
A.C. Reynolds nosed out WHS by three points (125-122) to win the women's meet; Mooresville won the men's meet with 140 points; WHS finished second with 118 points. The Pioneers also produced ten second-place finishes on Saturday. The women's 4x800 relay B Team finished second in 10:06.59; Belle Lehman finished second in the 100 low hurdles (16:25); Doria Kosmala finished second in the 1,600 (5:34.70); Bryan Brackney finished second in the men's 1,600 (4:42.59); the WHS women's 4x100 relay team finished second in 53.15; the men's 4x100 team finished second in 44.89; Schmal finished second in the 400 (51.56); Julia Roberts finished second in the 800 (2:25.02); Taylor Drummonds finished second in the women's pole vault (10-feet); and Max Ruble finished second in the men's pole vault (12-6).
The WHS men and women compete in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference Championships at Lenior-Rhyne University in Hickory on Wednesday. The Class 4A Western Regional will be at Jack Groce Stadium on Saturday, May 12.
