Chambers Headed To Ferrum PDF Print

It's taken a while, but Watauga High senior Kyle Chambers has finally decided on the school of his choice. Chambers, who led the WHS football team in rushing last season, will attend Ferrum College, a Division III school in Ferrum, Va., and a

member of USA South Conference, next fall.
Since Ferrum is a D-III school, Chambers will not have a signing day, but a commitment day, instead.  Chambers' recruiting coach Bob Brown was on Appalachian State coach Jerry Moore's staff at Texas Tech; his running backs coach Chris Warren, who is a Ferrum alum, played in the National Football League for the Seattle Seahawks for ten years. And Chambers will be joining a successful program at Ferrum. The Panthers were 7-3 last season; 6-1 in league play.
Chambers was an All-Northwestern 3A/4A Conference performer last season. He came back from a serious neck injury he suffered late in his junior year to revive a dormant WHS running game.
Chambers, who ran for 1,402 yards and scored 17 touchdowns, became WHS's first 1,000-yard rusher since Eric Breitenstein (now a red-shirt senior at Wofford College) in 2007.  Team-wise, the Pioneers were 7-6 and made it to the second-round of the state playoffs. It was their first winning season four years, and they also snapped a three-game losing streak in the state playoffs.
Chambers, who averaged 5.3 yards-per-carry last fall, hopes to make his commitment official the week of May 7.
