Crawdads Swat Sand Gnats, 7-1 PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads crushed three triples to pace the 7-1 victory against the Savannah Sand Gnats before 2,678 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium on Thursday night in Savannah. The Crawdads (9-5) jumped on losing pitcher

Alex Ponteliodis (2-1) right away. With one out, Hanser Alberto belted a triple to right-center field and scored on an overthrow by second baseman T.J. Rivera for a 1-0 lead.
Hickory scored again in the top of the second. After Chris Grayson ripped the team's second triple into the right field corner, he came home on a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Williams for a 2-0 lead. The Crawdads scored two more times in the top of the fourth.  With one out, Zach Cone singled, Grayson walked and Jordan Akins singled to load the bases.  After a strikeout, Kevin Torres bounced a grounder to the right side of the infield.  First baseman Brian Harrison made a diving stop on the play, but then he made a bad throw to first allowing Cone and Grayson to score for a 4-0 lead.
The Sand Gnats finally got on the board against winning pitcher Jerad Eickhoff (2-1) in the bottom of the fourth.  Harrison led off with a single and advanced to second on a balk.  After a grounder to third moved Harrison to third base, he scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Charley Thurber, making it 4-1.
Hickory got that run back in the top of the fifth.  Alberto started the inning with a bunt single and raced around to third on a single by Rougned Odor.  A wild pitch, allowed Alberto to score giving the 'Dads the 5-1 lead.
The Crawdads applied the finishing touch with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Torres singled to start things off, and moved to third on consecutive ground outs to second base.  Alberto ripped a two-out RBI single to left field, and the darted all the way home on an RBI triple by Odor.
Santo Perez took over in the bottom of the sixth and recorded his first save of the year with four scoreless innings.
