Bears' Softball Places League-High Six On All-SAC Team PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team led the way with six players earning 2012 All-South Atlantic Conference honors, league officials announced this afternoon as part of its annual awardsOf the six players, three were named to the all-conference first team: senior pitcher Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.), senior catcher

Sarah Atkins (Newport News, Va.) and junior first baseman Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.). Millwood, who was also named the SAC Pitcher Of The Year for the second consecutive season, is currently 28-6 on the year with a 1.37 earned run average and 180 strikeouts.
Millwood is a four-time All-SAC (2009-12) and two-time all-region honoree (2010-11) who is the school's all-time leader in victories (94) and shutouts (39). Atkins earned all-conference honors for the third time in her career. This year, Atkins is second on the team in batting average (.340), home runs (11) and runs batted in (45). A second-team All-American in 2010, Atkins is the school's all-time leader in home runs (46) and runs batted in (187).
Fellmeth, a two-time First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference pick (2011-12), currently leads the squad in home runs (12) and RBI (48) to go along with a .318 batting average. Freshman outfielders Marie Mauhar (Mills River, N.C.) and Brittany Coursen (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.) were all named to the 2012 all-league second team.
Both Mauhar (.319) and Coursen (.325) batted over .300 against South Atlantic Conference teams this year while Jarman earned all-league accolades for the second straight season.
Jarman leads the squad in batting average (.395), runs (47), hits (68), doubles (15), triples (four) and total bases (115).
In addition, Lenoir-Rhyne 13th-year mentor Shena Hollar was named the SAC Softball Coach Of The Year for the third straight season including fifth overall. Hollar, who has a 533-173-2 mark as L-R Head Softball Coach, led the Bears to their eighth SAC Regular Season Championship this spring.
Lenoir-Rhyne (42-11, 14-4), ranked No. 22 in NCAA Division II, will be the top seed in the 2012 Food Lion SAC Softball Tournament which beings Thursday in Greeneville, Tenn. L-R will face eighth-seeded Mars Hill (22-22, 7-11) beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Red Edmonds Field.
