The Watauga High men's golf team turned in a fourth-place finish at the Brushy Mountain Country Club in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference meet in Taylorsvile Monday afteroon. It was WHS's best showing
of the year. The Pioneers finished with a team score of 322 and finished nine shots off the pace. Hickory bested the field with a team score of 313. Alexander Central, playing on its home course, finished three shots back with a 316.
Alex Rhyne of the Cougars paced the field with an even par 72; Cameron Taylor paced WHS with a five over 77. He finished seven shots off the lead. Austin Graham had a 79; Austin Northern had an 81.
"I am extremely proud of our team and their effort today," said WHS coach Mike Northern. "I applaud their never give up attitude and efforts to finish the season strong. Great job, guys!"
The Pioneers will host the next to last NW3A/4A Conference meet of the season next Tuesday at the Boone Golf Club.
