'Dads Clipped By Tourists, 9-6 PDF Print

Hickory 2B Rougned Odor belted a two-run bomb in the bottom of the ninth, but the Hickory Crawdads fell short, 9-6, against the Asheville Tourists, before 1,131 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday evening. The Tourists (7-4) jumped on losing pitcher Will Lamb (0-1) with three runs

(one earned) in the top of the first inning. Delta Cleary, Jr. got things started as he reached on a throwing error by Lamb. He advanced to second base on a bunt single by Brian Humphries.  He scored on David Kandilas's RBI double; Harold Riggins drove in a run with an RBI single, and a third run scored on Jared Simon's double play ball, making it 3-0.
The Crawdads (6-5) tied things up in the bottom of the third. Kellin Deglan sparked the offense with his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the right field wall.  Drew Robinson reached on a single, and moved to second when when Luis Sardinas was hit by a pitch.  Odor smacked an RBI single, plating Robinson and moving Sardinas to third.  Sardinas then scored on Hanser Alberto's double-play ball to tie things up at 3-3.
But Asheville regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, and then plated four more runs in the seventh to break the game open.  With one away in the top of the seventh and Asheville on top 4-3, Will Swanner doubled his way on.  Jose Rivera drove in Swanner with an RBI single and advanced to second on a base hit by Cleary, Jr.  Humphries followed with an RBI single, driving in Rivera and moving Cleary, Jr. to second base.  Cleary, Jr. took third on a fly ball out to right field before he scored on a wild pitch that gave the Tourists a 7-3 lead. Humphries moved to second base on the play.  One out later, Riggins drove in Humphries with an RBI single, making it 8-3.
The 'Dads picked up a run in the eighth. Alberto scored on an RBI grounder Kevin Torres. But the Tourists got that run back in the top of the ninth.
Odor's two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth made it 9-6, but Russell Brewer shut down things down for the Tourists to end the game. Kannapolis comes to town for a three-games series beginning Monday.
Crawdads Clippings:
