Appalachian State University softball dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Elon 8-0, 7-4, at East Field.
The Mountaineers (16-19, 6-9 SoCon) were out hit by the Phoenix (19-13, 8-6 SoCon) 5-2 in the first game and 11-10 in the nightcap. Elon wasted no time to get on the scoreboard when leadoff hitter

Carleigh Nester hit a solo home run to right center. The Phoenix added on six more runs in the second.  Erin O'Shea lead the inning off with a solo homer to left.  Camille Hill roped one up the middle to score Spencer and give Elon a 3-0 lead.  Lauren Oldham singled to left center to add on two more runs and a batter later Grace Eng hit a two run single to extend the Phoenix lead to 7-0.
The Phoenix scored their eighth run of the game in the fourth to put the eight run mercy rule in effect.
Sarah Warnock and Allie Cashion recorded the Mountaineers only hits. O'Shea struck out five and only gave up a single to Warnock and a double to Cashion. Caitlin Wainright started the contest and only got through one and a third inning giving up seven runs (three earned) and four hits.  Caroline Wainright came in to relief to finish out the game and only allowed one hit and one unearned run.
Warnock and Megan Rembielak led off the nightcap with bunt singles and Warnock scored on a two-out RBI-single by Riley Carter.  Caroline Rogers doubled to right center to score Rembielak but Carter was thrown out at the place trying to score from first to end the Mountaineers' two run first inning.
O'Shea helped her own cause in the bottom of the first to tie the game up 2-2 with a two-run single to right center. Carter loaded up the bases by hitting Johanna Spencer and Hill earned a two-out walk to give Elon a 3-2 lead. Elon's Tomeka Watson recorded a three-run homer to give the Phoenix a 6-2 lead in the second inning.
Dani Heichen led off the fifth with a walk and a pair of bunt singles by Warnock and Rembielak loaded up the bases.  Cashion drove the ball passed the shortstop's out-reached glove to drive in Heichen and Warnock and cut Elon's lead to 6-4.
Elon brought its lead back to three runs (7-4) on a Nester RBI-single to center field. Carter gave up seven runs on 10 hits in four and a third innings of work, while Caroline Wainright came in relief and held the Phoenix scoreless.
Warnock recorded her 15th multiple hit game and now leads the team, while Cashion posted her 12th multi-RBI game of the season.
The Mountaineers and the Phoenix wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at East Field.
