Atkins Named SAC Softball Player Of Week PDF Print

Lenoir-Rhyne's Sarah Atkins has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today. Atkins wins the award for the second time this year. Atkins, a senior catcher from Newport News, Va., batted .667 (six-for-nine) with a home run

and three runs batted in to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to three wins in four contests last week.
Atkins tallied a pair of hits and drove in two runs in Lenoir-Rhyne's 6-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader sweep at Augusta State last Tuesday.
Atkins added three hits in the first game against Brevard Friday at home before hitting a home run in a 4-3 win in 11 innings in the nightcap.Atkins, a two-time All-SAC and All-Southeast Region honoree (2009-10) and 2010 Second-Team All-American, is currently tied for the team lead in home runs (10) to go along with a .326 batting average and 40 runs batted in.Wingate's Miranda Paul was named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher Of The Week.Lenoir-Rhyne (38-11, 10-4), ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II, visits Tusculum on Wednesday in a conference doubleheader in Greeneville, Tenn., beginning at 3:00 p.m.
