Appalachian State University saw 13 of its student-athletes earn a spot on the Southern Conference Academic all-Conference list, released by the league office on Thursday. The Academic all-SoCon honorees,

which included athletes from Winter sports in basketball, indoor track and field and wrestling, each earned at least a 3.3 grade-point average while participating in at least half of their team’s competitions during the season.
In addition, those named as Academic all-conference members must complete at least 24 credit hours the previous two semesters. A total of 158 Southern Conference student-athletes earned Academic all-conference honors and combined to post an impressive 3.62 GPA as a group.
The list was topped by women’s indoor track and field, which had a total of 71 student-athletes earn the honor, followed by men’s indoor track and field (43) and women’s basketball (25).
With Appalachian’s 13 spots on the Winter 2012 Academic all-SoCon squad, the total number of Mountaineers to earn Academic all-conference honors now comes to 47 after 34 ASU student-athletes earned the honor in the fall.
