L-R opened the scoring with sophomore third baseman Haily Jarman's (Wadesboro, N.C.) RBI double in the first inning before Coursen connected on a solo home run in the second.
The contest remained 2-0 until Laxton's pinch-hit, two-run home run with one out in the top of the seventh inning.
Augusta State's Emily Headrick (Rock Face, Ga.) fell to 14-3 on the year after suffering the loss on the mound for the Jaguars.
In the second game, senior Lauren Harris (Yadkinville, N.C.) pitched a four-hit shutout and improved to 7-2 on the season as the Bears completed the doubleheader sweep of the Jaguars. Augusta State's Heather Hughes (Tallahassee, Fla.) (9-5) suffered the loss.
On offense, senior second baseman Carlee Carpenter (Newton, N.C.) and senior catcher Sarah Atkins (Newport News, Va.) each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bears.
Atkins connected on RBI singles in the first and third innings, respectively, for Lenoir-Rhyne before the Bears broke the contest open with a three-run fourth highlighted by Carpenter's two-run single.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Friday when it hosts Brevard in a doubleheader at Bears Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. Augusta State, meanwhile, faces USC Aiken on the road Thursday in a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.
