Appalachian State University men's track and field swept the Southern Conference Athlete of the Month awards, the league office announced Tuesday.  AJ Dohanic and Darius Purcell were named as the league's Athletes of the Month

in track and field, respectively. Purcell earned the honor after setting a new Appalachian State high-jump record with a leap of 7'3.25" at the Wake Forest Invitational on March 16. The record-setting performance ranks first in the Southern Conference this season and is the top mark in the NCAA East Region.
The senior has won two of the three meets in which he has competed during the outdoor season and is the league's reigning champion in the high jump in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Dohanic earned his award after posting a SoCon-leading time of 14.24 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles at the South Carolina Weems-Baskin Invitational on March 23. He has also posted the conference's fourth-best time in the 200-meter dash (21.74 seconds) and ranks seventh in the 100-meter dash.
He has finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in three of the four meets he has competed in and was fourth in the event at South Carolina.
The duo represents two of five Appalachian State athletes who earned Athlete of the Month honors in their respective sports.
