The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (4-10, 2-6) rallied from a six-goal deficit to defeat Rollins (3-11, 1-6), 17-16, in double overtime in Deep South Conference action Sunday at Moretz Stadium. L-R sophomore Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) scored the game-winner 20 seconds
into the second overtime. Lenoir-Rhyne freshman John Remsen (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored four goals while freshmen Miles Britton (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Imari Davis (San Diego, Calif.) added three goals and two assists each as the Bears won their second consecutive match.
Rollins was led by Will Diamond's (Delray Beach, Fla.) four goals and three assists in the setback.
The Tars scored seven straight goals, including three by Diamond, to end the first period with a 9-3 advantage. Rollins held a 16-14 lead with 1:22 remaining in the fourth period before Lenoir-Rhyne scored a pair of goals to force overtime including a score by Remsen with 18 seconds left to extend the contest.
Ashton and freshman Ned Kaish (Atlanta, Ga.) also scored three goals each on the day for the Bears, who held a 50-47 edge in shots taken. Kaish leads the squad in goals this season with 30. Rollins, which lost its fourth straight match, received three goals and one assist from Oliver Moore (Skaneateles, N.Y.) in the loss as well.
In goal, freshman Alex Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was credited with the win after stopping four shots for Lenoir-Rhyne while Rollins' Andrew Sheerin (Huntington, N.Y.) suffered the defeat despite totaling 10 saves on the afternoon.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Coker in its regular season finale next Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Rollins returns home to take on Tampa next Friday at 7:00 p.m.
