The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College by a 10-0 margin in the first half en route to a 17-1 win on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play on Tate Field. Queens (5-7, 2-2 CC) outshot Lees-McRae (1-7, 0-4 CC) by a 39-5 margin, including a 22-2 advantage in the first half,
while edging the Bobcats, 33-29, in ground balls. The Royals controlled 15-of-20 draws, while converting 18-of-21 clear attempts.
Anna DeLuke (Woodstock, Ga.) tallied her fourth goal of the season for the Bobcats, as Amy Beard (Fort Benning, Ga.) recorded her first collegiate assist. Alex Smith (West Seneca, N.Y.) paced Lees-McRae with five ground balls, as Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.) and Nicole Dupont (Fort Myers, Fla.) each scoped four balls off the turf. Jessica Travers (Asheville, N.C.) tallied 15 saves between the pipes for the Bobcats.
Brittany Phillip paced Queens with three goals, as Brittany Barnwell added a pair of strikes. Kristi Kemp and Caitlin Miller each recorded two assists, as 14 different Royals found the back of the net. Barnwell and Melissa Boulbol each recorded four ground balls, as Danielle Horoschak and Chelsea Lancashire combined for two saves between the pipes for the Royals.
Queens got off to a strong start, taking an early 4-0 lead in the opening two minutes before stretching the margin to 8-0 on a strike by Paige Fisher at the 13:57 mark. The Royals would push the margin to 10-0 with 7:20 remaining in the period on a strike by Shannon Casey off a Kemp assist.
The Royals opened the second half with six goals, taking a 16-0 advantage with less than a minute to go before DeLuke got the Bobcats on the board with 12 ticks left off an assist by Beard. Queens capped the scoring with a last-second strike.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Monday when the Bobcats travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College at 5:30 p.m. in conference play.
Falcons Claw Bobcats, 19-1
The Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College by an 11-1 margin in the first half en route to a 19-1 victory in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon.
Pfeiffer (10-3, 4-0 CC) outshot Lees-McRae (1-9, 0-4 CC) by a 53-21 margin, including a 32-9 advantage in the first half, while winning the battle in ground balls by a stretch of 40-28. The Falcons won 15-of-24 face-offs while converting 16-of-22 clear attempts.
Brett Yusiewicz (Chapel Hill, N.C.) found the back of the net for the 12th time this season, as Danny Ives (Cheadle, Cheshire, England) tallied his seventh assist of the campaign. Jarrod Brady (Kernersville, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with four ground balls, as Ryan Sparks (Hilton Head, S.C.) and Derin Vacca (Wake Forest, N.C.) won five and four face-offs, respectively. Ryan Harrison (Lake Mary, Fla.) made 11 saves for the Bobcats.
James Shepherd scored a game-high seven goals to lead the way for Pfeiffer, as Tucker Hammock added three goals and five assists. Justin Rose chipped in four goals, as Cole Paciejewski added a pair of strikes and Elliot Gilbert posted two assists. Rose and Tommy Melching each recorded a game-high five ground balls, as Melching won 15-of-22 face-offs. TJ Connors and Michael Markland combined for 12 saves between the pipes for Pfeiffer.
Pfeiffer got off to a strong start, taking a 6-0 lead into the second period and adding four strikes to open a 10-0 advantage before the Bobcats got on the board at the 3:49 mark, when Yusiewicz found the back of the net off an assist by Ives.
After the Falcons closed out the period with a late goal to stretch the lead to 11-1, Pfeiffer tallied six goals in the third to push the margin to 17-1. Pfeiffer then scored a pair of goals in the fourth to cap the day's scoring.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Saturday, April 7 when the Bobcats host Queens University of Charlotte in their regular-season finale. The Bobcats will celebrate senior day prior to the opening face-off slated for 2 p.m.
