The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (31-10, 7-3) remained in the South Atlantic Conference race with a doubleheader sweep of Carson-Newman (19-15, 2-6), 1-0 and 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the

Lady Eagles Complex. In the opener, L-R senior pitcher Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) threw her ninth shutout of the year in leading the Bears to the win. Millwood scattered four hits in addition to striking out eight batters.
The Bears scored the game's lone run in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by freshman outfielder Marie Mauhar (Mills River, N.C.).
Carson-Newman's Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) took the loss on the mound despite allowing just one run on five hits.
In the nightcap, L-R senior outfielder Tameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring single which proved to be the game-winner to lead the Bears to the sweep of the Eagles.
Lenoir-Rhyne tied the contest at three in the top of third inning when freshman outfielder Brittany Coursen (Virginia Beach, Va.) drew a bases-loaded walk before Sealey's game-winning single in the fifth.
Sealey led L-R with two hits and an RBI and Millwood improved to 20-5 on the year after being credited with the victory.
For Carson-Newman, Shealy (19-15) suffered the loss while Brie Shoemake (Ooltewah, Tenn.) led the Eagles offensively with two hits and a run batted in as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road when it travels to Gaffney, S.C., to take on Limestone on Thursday in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. Carson-Newman plays at Tusculum on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., in a league doubleheader.
