The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Lacrosse Team (9-3) defeated No. 12 Florida Southern College (7-2), 20-16, Saturday afternoon at Bryant Stadium. L-R freshman Mary Minick (Marietta, Ga.) led all scorers with seven goals while freshman Lauren Donovan (Hollywood, Md.) and sophomore Hayley Beattie (Lebanon, N.J.)
added three goals each as the Bears picked up the road win. Florida Southern's Caitlin Chase (Mount Laurel, N.J.) finished with a team-high four goals and three assists while the Moccasins received three goals each from Danielle LaDuca (Webster, N.Y.) and Maureen Cromer (Baltimore, Md.) in the losing effort.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which never trailed in the contest, scored the match's first four goals en route to an 11-5 lead entering intermission.
L-R then held a 15-11 advantage midway through the second half before putting the contest away with four straight goals capped off by a score from junior Sarah Minick (Marietta, Ga.), her team-leading 35th on the season.
Lenoir-Rhyne held the edge in shots taken (33-31) for the contest while Florida Southern had a 25-22 advantage in ground balls.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman goalkeeper Allison Senft (Marietta, Ga.) was credited with the win after tallying eight saves on the day while Florida Southern's Katie Hammerer (California, Md.) suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Newberry, S.C., to face Newberry on Monday beginning at 4:00 p.m. Florida Southern faces Pfeiffer next Saturday in Misenheimer, N.C., at 11:00 a.m.
