Handing the Eagles their 16th-straight loss, Appalachian State University men’s tennis defeated Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern, 7-0, on Saturday. The match was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday but was delayed extensively due to inclement weather. The match began with Appalachian (7-5, 1-1 SoCon) sweeping

all three doubles matches to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Mountaineers took an early lead in four singles matches before Friday’s action was suspended due to rain.
On Saturday, senior Alain Humblet (Montreal, Quebec/DE Mortagne) polished off the first singles point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, and classmate Alex Markov (Pernik, Bulgaria/Hawai'i Pacific) soon picked up a win by identical score at the No. 1 position. Senior Steve Karendal (Kernersville, N.C./Lees-McRae) added to his doubles win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles to earn Appalachian's fourth team point and clinch the match. In the No. 2 match, classmate Philip Kloc (Melbourne, Australia/Mentone Grammar) needed an extra game to seal the second set in his 6-4, 7-5 win.
Sophomore Matt Saltsgaver (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) fought a close first set but broke open the second to win 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6, while fellow sophomore Sebastien King (Montreal, Quebec/George Vanier) wrapped the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win in the No. 4 singles match.
Appalachian is back on the courts Sunday with a road match at Davidson at 1 p.m.
