WHS Softball Wins Third Straight PDF Print

The Watauga High softball team defeated Hibriten 15-11 Friday night in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference game at the Sports Complex. The Pioneers (6-4 overall; 3-2 NW3A/4A), who have won three in a row and six of their last seven games, blew an early 4-0 lead, fell behind 10-9, and following a 45-minute

lightning delay, bounced back to win the game. The Pioneers stormed back with a six-run explosion in the sixth inning.
Taylor Drummonds led the way by scoring five runs. She had three singles, walked twice, she had three stolen bases and drove in a run. Riley Pudney doubled and drove in four runs. The Pioneers had 17 hits. Hope LaPoint had two doubles and two RBI; Pudney and Kim Robinson each finished with three hits. Robinson also drove in a run. Micala McCune got the win in relief. She gave up two hits, walked two and struck out two.
The Pioneers travel to St. Stephens on Tuesday and Fred T. Foard on Wednesday. Those will be varsity-only games; The WHS JV team will play a double-header at home against Freedom on Monday.
The JV team defeated Hibriten 8-5 Friday night. Megan Jackson got the win. She gave up two hits, walked two and struck out six.


WHS SOCCER WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT

 


The Watauga High women's soccer team defeated Hibriten 3-1 Friday night in Boone. With the win, the Pioneers (6-2 overall; 3-0 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) also remain unbeaten in league play with St. Stephens and Fred T. Foard, two of the top Class 3A teams in the conference coming up on the schedule this week.
Molly Wells and Hannah Younger each had a goal and an assist; Kendyl Baird scored on a penalty kick. Madi Critcher had an assist. The JV team defeated Hibriten, 2-0. Marcie Mahoney scored twice; Jerry Schlenker and Cole Ellis each had an assist. The Pioneers travel to St. Stephens Tuesday night.

 


WHS WOMEN'S LACROSSE SNAPS TWO-GAME SLIDE

 


The Watauga High women's lacrosse team took its frustrations out on Kernersville-Glenn in a huge way Friday night. Mired in a two-game losing streak, the Pioneers (2-4) walloped Glenn 20-3 at the Sports Complex in Boone. Olivia Li led the way with a game-high seven goals; Sunny Mohr had four goals; Katie Marks had two goals. Danielle Welsh, Carly Moser, Ava Moody, Laura Li, Keirston Henson, Courtney Kapral and Addy Kincaid each scored a goal. Hannah Greer made four saves.
The WHS men's lacrosse team had its match at Hickory rained out Friday night. The match has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 4 at 7 p.m. The WHS men and women travel to East Forsyth Tuesday night.
