Pioneers Remain Unblemished PDF Print

The Watauga High men's tennis team defeated Fred T. Foard 9-0 Thursday night in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference match in Newton, N.C. Michael Smith, Harrison Battle, Landon Taylor, Chris Ludwig, Aaron Evans

and Jackson Yates won in singles; Battle and Josh Lampkins picked up a win at No.1 doubles; Ludwig and Patrick Carlson got a win at No.2 doubles; and Noah Moomaw and Spencer Schlenker were victorious at No.3 doubles.
The Pioneers (5-0 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference; 7-0 overall) return home to play Mooresville Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.

 


PIONEERS, McCUNE GROUND EAGLES

 


The Watuaga High softball team (5-4 overall) nailed down its fifth win in six games by knocking off Wilkes Central 5-1 Thursday afternoon in Moravian Falls. Winning pitcher Michala McCune turned in a stellar performance by going the distance, scattering three hits and striking out nine. Hope LaPointe continued her hot hitting by going 3-4 on the day; Taylor Drummonds and Nicole Dollar each had two hits. The PIoneers return home to play Hibriten tonight in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference game. The Pioneers are 2-2 in leage play.
The JV team defeated Wilkes Central 21-2 in five innings. Winning pitcher Kristen Gill went five innings, gave up three hits and struck out nine. Today's game with Hibriten begins with the varisty at 4:30 p.m. The JV game will follow.
