Watauga High baseball coach Pete Hardee has announced that the Pioneers have cancelled their game with Ashe County next Saturday, March 31. Instead, the Pioneers will host Ardrey Kell at WHS Field that day. It will be a varsity game only beginning at 2 p.m. It will also be Ardrey Kell's

first appearance in Boone. The Pioneers have never beaten the Knights. Ardrey Kell won last year's game 8-7 in Charlotte. This will also be the third time these teams have tried to get their game in this season. This contest, which was originially scheduled for March 3, has been postponed twice. It was rained out on March 3; and Ardrey Kell was forced to postponed the rescheduled game on March 17, so the Knight could play a make up game against Southwestern 4A Conference foe, Myers Park.
"It's an honor to play a quality team like Ardrey Kell," said WHS coach Pete Hardee. "(Ardrey Kell coach) Hal Bagwell (who like Hardee played baseball and graduated from Appalachian State) does a great job with his program. Hal just decided to come up here. We're really looking forward to it."
The Pioneers take on Hibriten at home Friday night in a must-win game for both teams. The Panthers, who defeated Hickory Wednesday night, have won two of their last three games. They begin the night in a three-way tie with WHS and Hickory for third place. Matt Proffitt gets the starting nod for WHS. Our coverage begins at 6 p.m. on Oldies 100.7 FM.
NOTES: WHS coach Pete Hardee has announced that first baseman Clint Trivette will see the doctor on Tuesday concerning his injuried right hand. "We don't want to take an unnecessary chances," Hardee said. "We want to make sure his hand is all right before he's cleared to play. The last thing we want for Clint is to come back, re-injure his hand and then have surgery on it. We're trying to avoid that." Triivitte who signed his National Letter of Intent with Brevard College on Wednesday to play football next fall, suffered a hairline fracture in his right hand against Mount Tabor on March 8.
