The Watauga High softball team bounced back from a disappointing loss last week and clobbered South Caldwell 11-4 Wednesday afternoon in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference game in Sawmills, N.C. Kim Robinson
went the distance and picked up the win. She scattered seven hits and struck out ten.
Hope LaPointe backboned the offense with a double, a triple and three runs-batted-in. Elizabeth Dollar and Michala McCune each drove in two runs apiece; Allison Townsend and Riley Pudney each drove in a run; Robinson, Hallie Leonard each had two hits and scored twice. The Pioneers (4-4 overall; 2-2 NW3A/4A) pounded out 16 hits.
WHS has won four of its last five games. South Caldwell won the JV game, 15-11. Savvannah Drummonds had three hits, including a triple; Shelby Winebarger had three hits, including a double and a triple; Rachel Hawkins had two hits. The Pioneers travel to Wilkes Central for a non-conference game this afternoon. The JV game begins at 4:30 p.m.
WHS JV BASEBALL COMES UP SHORT
The Watauga JV baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision at South Caldwell Wednesday night. Andy Gilliam paced the JV team (3-5 overall; 2-2 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) with three hits. Carson Isaacs had two hits; Justin Greer had a base hit and an RBI; Jesse Illich doubled; Adam Greene drove in a run; Stedman Sauls doubled and drove in a run. The WHS baseball team returns home to play Hibriten Friday night. Matt Proffitt gets the starting nod for the varsity. Our coverage begins at 6 p.m. on Oldies 100.7 FM.
WHS TRACK POSTPONED
The Watauga High men's and women's track meet at St. Stephens on Wednesday was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. The Pioneers travel to Newton for a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference meet next Wednesday, March 28. Fred T. Foard will host the meet.
