Gas Prices Take Weekend Leap PDF Print

As gas prices approach $4 a gallon for drivers across the nation, The Obama administration, taking political heat over those high gasoline prices, is considering delaying new rules that would cut pollution from cars but also could bring higher prices at the pump. News outlets this morning are reporting that the rules would require refiners to make cleaner-burning gasoline and auto makers to build cars that emit fewer smog-forming pollutants. The Environmental Protection Agency was scheduled to roll out the rules before April, but it hasn't yet submitted them for White House review.  Gas prices in the Charlotte area jumped three cents per gallon overnight, while some of the largest jumps in the High Country came over the weekend, with prices ranging from $3.75 to over $3.80 per gallon for regular.
