WHS Track Finishes Second At Lake Norman PDF Print

The Watauga High men's and women's track teams competed in a twilight meet in Lake Norman, N.C. Both the WHS men's amd women's teams finished second. The women won five events and produced 28 top-ten finishers; the men won four events and produced 26 top-ten finishers. The WHS men and women

both swept the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays.
The women won the 4x400 in 4:17.6 and the 4x800 in 9:54.8; the men won the 4x400 in 3:35.2 and the 4x800 in 8:20.6. Darby Middlebrook won the women's 1,600-meter run in 5:09.4; Taylor Drummonds won the 100 hurdles (15.6 seconds) and tied for first with Elizabeth Rodes of Mooresville in the pole vault (9-feet-6 inches). Tara Trivette won the high jump (4-10). On the men's side, Stephen Schmal won the 200 (22.5) and Reid Harris won the pole vault (14-09).
The women's 4x100 relay team finished second (54.7); Hailey Middlebrook finished second in the 800 (2:22.7); Christian Backman of the Pioneers finished second in the 400 (53.1); Jake Pifer finished second in the men's high jump (6 feet); Zach Helms finished second in the 110 hurdles (15.4); Dustin Hickernell finished second in the 1,600 (4:39.1); Schmal and Harris finished in a four-way tie for second place in the 100 (11.1).
Peter Vandenberg turned in a third-place finish in the men's 1,600 (4:42); Madison Harman was third in the women's 1,600 (5:27.6); Julia Roberts finished third in the 800 (2:28.8); the WHS men finished third in the 4x100 relay (47.6); Allison Seramur finished third in the pole vault (9-0), and the WHS women finished third in the 4x200 relay (2:04).
The Pioneers travel to St. Stephens for a four-team meet with the Indians, Fred T. Foard and Alexander Central on Wednesday.




The Watuaga High men's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 19-1 loss at Marvin Ridge in Charlotte. Dominick Hamilton had the only WHS (3-2) goal.
"We lost to an excellent team," said WHS coach Chris Wallace. "They had Providence down, something like 3-1 Friday night before the rains washed that game out. And Providence is ranked second in the state, But we'll take something positive out of this for our next match. It was a good learning experience for us."
The WHS men return home to play the Christ School JV team Tuesday night as part of a double-header. The WHS women play Pfafftown-Reagan Tuesday night in the opening match.
