The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (26-9) won both contests of a doubleheader over Lander (15-15) Thursday afternoon at Doug Spears Field by scores of 4-1 and 2-1.  Senior pitcher Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.)

won both games on the mound for the Bears. In the opener, Millwood scattered four hits in addition to striking out four batters to lead the Bears to the victory. L-R would take the lead for good with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.  Senior second baseman Carlee Carpenter (Newton, N.C.) connected on an RBI single in the frame.
Lander scored its lone run of the game on a run-scoring infield single from Casey Corbitt (West Columbia, S.C.) in the second but Lenoir-Rhyne responded with a two-run third inning. Both senior outfielder Tameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) and sophomore shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.) drove in runs in the inning to make it a 4-1 final.
Carpenter and Sealey led the Bears with two hits while the Bearcats' M.K. Pegram (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) fell to 2-3 with the loss.
In game two, junior outfielder Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.) broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning which proved to be the game-winner as the Bears swept the doubleheader from the Bearcats.
An RBI sacrifice fly by Jaime Presnell (Campobello, S.C.) in the bottom of the third inning gave Lander a 1-0 advantage.
However, L-R tied the score at one when freshman outfielder Brittany Coursen (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth before the Bears won it in the eighth. Millwood (15-4) did not allow a run in 3.1 innings pitched en route to the win for Lenoir-Rhyne while Lander's Kegan Leissner (Jefferson, Ga.) fell to 8-8 with the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Newberry in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Bears Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.  Lander hosts UNC Pembroke in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Noon.
