Lightning Ignites Boone Property PDF Print

There was no rain, but a strong bolt of lightning is being blamed on a fire that struck a property on Dogwood Drive in Boone this afternoon.  An outbuilding behind a home in the 400 block of Dogwood was apparently struck, and within a few minutes of the lightning bolting from the sky, fire was roaring out of the shed and into the woods.  The neighbor grabbed a hose and tried to keep the fire from spreading into the woods while Boone Fire was en route, and firemen knocked the fire down in short order—then entered the building and carried out mowers, chainsaws, and over a half-dozen gas containers, containers that miraculously did not ignite with the fire and heat.  The neighbors said that they witnessed the lightning hit in the proximity of the top of the hill on Dogwood, but were not sure where it hit until the fire was spotted.  The owner of the property was said to be out of town, according to neighbors, and fire investigators would have to try to contact the owner as they report on the loss.
