The Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team (24-9) swept USC Aiken (10-8) in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Satcher Field. In game one, the Bears hit three home runs while senior Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) threw her seventh shutout of the

season to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to the win.  Millwood (13-4) allowed just five hits while striking out three batters en route to the victory.
Junior first baseman Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.) opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning before home runs by senior catcher Sarah Atkins (Newport News, Va.) and junior designated player Megan Laxton (Taylorsville, N.C.) extended the Bears' advantage to 4-0 in the third inning.
Senior second baseman Carlee Carpenter (Newton, N.C.) rounded out the scoring for Lenoir-Rhyne with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. USC Aiken's India Kornegay (Eufaula, Ala.) fell to 10-7 on the year after suffering the loss on the mound for the Pacers.
In game two, Carpenter and sophomore third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.) each collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bears to the sweep. With the score tied at one, Lenoir-Rhyne took control with two runs in each of the second and third innings, respectively.  Jarman had a two-run single in the second while freshman outfielder Marie Mauhar (Mills River, N.C.) connected on a two-run double in the third inning.
After the Pacers cut the lead to 5-3 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bears put the contest away with a four-run seventh highlighted by a two-run single from Carpenter.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior Lauren Harris (Yadkinville, N.C.) improved to 5-2 with the win while USC Aiken's Samantha Lemm (Berlin, N.J.) fell to 0-1 with the loss. The Pacers' Kayla Denham (Palatka, Fla.) also finished with two hits and two runs batted in on the game despite the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays in Greenwood, S.C., on Thursday against Lander in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.  USC Aiken hosts Georgia Southwestern in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
