Appalachian State University women’s basketball junior Anna Freeman has been named as the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Month for February, the league office announced on Wednesday. Freeman, who helped lead the

Apps to a 7-2 record in February, scored 10 or more points in eight games throughout the month including a team-high 22 in the season finale at Chattanooga. She also picked up two blocks against the Lady Mocs on Feb. 27 to break the ASU record for career blocks. She also posted double-doubles in wins over UNCG (18 pts, 10 reb) and College of Charleston (19 pts, 13 reb) while picking up five or more steals in four games.
In Appalachian’s nine February contests, Freeman averaged 14.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the floor and 87.1 percent from the free-throw line. She finished the month with 36 steals, 33 assists and 22 blocks.
The award is her second Player of the Month honor of the season after winning the award for her performance in December. Freeman and the Mountaineers will head to UNC Wilmington for a 7 p.m. matchup on Thursday in the first round of the 2012 Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
