ASU Finishes Strong at Myrtle Beach PDF Print

Appalachian State University men’s golf improved in each of the three rounds of the Bash at the Beach tournament and finished in a tie for 11th place with a 321-293-283=897 (+45). The Mountaineers’ third-round score was the lowest by

any team in the second-annual event.
John Michael Cole shook off a tough first round to lead ASU with an 84-69-69=222 (+9) and place 28th. Fellow newcomer Jason Woodall was steady throughout the event with a 79-72-72=223 (+19) to tie in 35th place.
Dustin Hudson carded a career-best 67 on Tuesday to finish off a solid weekend with a 40th-place finish at 78-79-67=224 (+11). Casey Komline improved from the first round to the final 36 holes with an 80-75-75=230 (+17) to tie for 58th place. Darren Cook wrapped up the team score in 86th place with an 84-77-80=241 (+28).
As the host of the second-annual event, ASU sent three individuals to compete as well. Eric Eberspeaker led the group and finished in 53rd place with a 77-76-74=227 (+14).
Josh Nichols tied for 72nd place with a 79-76-78=233 (+20) and Lance Wheeler finished one stroke back in 74th place at 81-79-74=234 (+21). Campbell claimed the team title with a 291-285-285=861 (+9), and CU’s Vaita Guillaume picked up a share of the individual championship. He shared the title with Xavier’s Sebastian MacLean at 206 (-7).
Gardner-Webb finished just one stroke behind the Camels, while Radford took third place. Appalachian tied with Stetson in 11th after picking up 13 strokes on the Hatters in the final round. Competing from the Southern Conference, Wofford dropped to 13th place at 898 (+46).
Appalachian continues its spring break trip at Ohio Dominican’s Match Play event at Orlando, Fla.’s Reunion Golf Club on March 16-17.
