Margolis Named All-District PDF Print

Watauga High junior Hannah Margolis has been named to the All-District 11 Basketball Team. Margolis, who led the Pioneers in scoring and rebounding this season was a third-team selection.  She averaged 13 points and nine rebounds a game

as the only returning starter on a very young team that only won seven games. She also averaged three steals, three assists and two block shots an outing.
District 11 consists of 36 schools systems in the following counties: Alexander, Alleghany, Caldwell, Iredell, Watauga, Surry/Mount Airy/Elkin, Stokes, Rowan, Ashe, Davie, Yadkin and Wilkes. Coaches from all schools vote for the top 15 players in their districts.
Margolis, who was the only Pioneer named to the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference team this season, is WHS's third all-district player in four years. Jeff Newell of the Pioneers was named all-district in 2008-09 in men's basketball; Damian Edwards was an all-district selection last season.
Keisha Corpening of Hibriten was a second-team selection. Wilkes Central, which lost to Siler City-Jordan Matthews in the Class 2A state title game Saturday in Chapel Hill, had the most selections with three players on the all-district team.
Paige Love, who will attend UNC-Asheville next season, and Katie Ryder of the Eagles were named to the first team; Haley Williams was named to the third team. Scott Waugh of Wilkes Central was the Coach of the Year; Brielle Blair of Salisbury was the Player of the Year.
