Appalachian State University softball left 10 runners on base as they fell to UNCG, 7-2, on Sunday at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium. The Mountaineers' (10-8, 1-2 SoCon) setback to the Spartans (8-14, 2-1 SoCon) gave the Apps their first series loss to UNCG since 2010.   The Spartan scored the

first run of the game in the second-inning on a RBI double by Tatiana Alcala and increased their lead to on a two-run single by leadoff hitter Alex Emeterio.
UNCG used the long ball for the second-straight game to put the game out of reach on a three-run shot by shortstop Heather Robb to give the Spartans a 6-0 advantage.  Robb blasted a two-run bomb on Saturday to help give UNCG its first conference win of the season.
In the seventh, the Spartans  used a pair of singles to start the inning to tag on another run (7-0), but the Mountaineers didn't go down without a fight.  Junior Meghan Smith poked a one-out single while fellow junior Allie Cashion brought her home on Cashion's seventh home run of the season.
Spartans' Cory Mattson earned the win in her four-inning performance, while Erica Navarette recorded the save for her three-innings of work. Caitlin Wainright took the loss as she struck out five batters and gave up seven runs on nine hits.
Dani Heichen, Sarah Warnock and Smith led ASU's offense with a pair of base knocks.
The Mountaineers will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. on Thursday to square off with former conference foe ETSU at 5 p.m. for a doubleheader.
