Women’s Golf Bests The Citadel and Dayton PDF Print

Rumbidzai Masamvu and Lauren Smith  each carded a 77 (+5) to lead Appalachian State University women’s golf to a win over Southern Conference rival The Citadel and host Dayton

in Sunday’s Dayton/Hilton Head Invitational.
The Mountaineers carded a 326 (+38) on the challenging Belfair Club West course in the small three-team competition. The Citadel placed second at 343 (+55) and the Flyers rounded out the field at 360 (+72). The Citadel’s Erica Pellegrini took home the individual title at 76 (+4).
Mimi Burke placed fourth with an 85 (+13), just two strokes ahead of teammate Yue Xu, who shot an 87 (+15) to tie in fifth place.
Competing as an individual, Samantha Bonham tied for 13th with a 92 (+20), while Brittany Zachrich finished 16th with a 94 (+22).
It was the squad’s second tri-match of the season, as ASU placed second at Wofford in late February.
Appalachian opens its Spring Break schedule on March 10-11 at Richmond’s Spider at St. James tournament in Southport, N.C.
