Boone Police are seeking a suspect who robbed the Wal-Mart store early this morning, brandishing a handgun. Employees told Boone Police that the man entered the store sometime just before 1 this morning, shopped for some 45 minutes to an hour, then walked to a checkout. When he approached the clerk, he was wearing a ski mask, but explained that he had been sick. The clerk scanned his items, but as the transaction was just about complete, the suspect pulled a handgun and took the money from the drawer—then fled out the door. The 9-1-1 call on the robbery came in about 1:45 this morning, and detectives say they are looking for a white male, 6’2” wearing black pants and hat, a gray hoodie, and tennis shoes. He was described as slender build, and fled the scene on foot behind the Food Lion Shopping Center.  Video surveillance was released by Boone Police, who quote witnesses as saying the man appeared to be genuinely ill, coughing and sneezing.  Anyone with information on this crime or any other crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at 828-268-6959.  All information will be kept confidential. Crimestoppers pays rewards for information, which leads to arrests; recovery of stolen property; seizure of drugs and the location of wanted persons.
