The Watauga High men's soccer team nosed out Hickory 5-4 Thursday night in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference match down in Hickory. The win gives WHS (2-0 overall) a 2-0 record in

league play.  Mike Smith, Harrison Battle, Christian Ludwig and Will Spinetto were victorious in singles play; Battle and Ludwig picked up a win in doubles play that won it for the Pioneers.
"It was a struggle, but we won the match and we're 2-0 in the conference," said WHS coach Scott Taylor. "I was proud of our guys. It's a big win in the conference."
The Pioneers travel to Salsibury for a non-conference match next Tuesday.
