WHS Tennis Wins Season Opener PDF Print

The Watauga High men's tennis team won its season opener with a 9-0 win at home against Fred T. Foard in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference match. Mike Smith, Harrison Battle, Will Spinetto,

Chris Ludwig, Landon Taylor and Aaron Evans were all victorious in singles play; Smith and Taylor teamed up for a win at No.1 doubles; Battle and Ludwig were victorious at No.2 doubles; Spinetto and Evans picked up a win at No.3 doubles.
Josh Lampkins, Jackson Yates, Patrick Carlson, Andrew Skeens and Noah Moomaw were victorious in exhibition play. The Pioneers (1-0 overall; 1-0 NW3A/4A) travel to Hickory Thursday night.



Titans Drop Pioneers in Season Opener


The Watauga High softball team was victimized by McDowell in its season opener Tuesday afternoon in Marion. The Titans defeated WHS, 4-1. Kim Robinson suffered the loss.
She went 3 1/3 innings and coughed up four runs on five hits with a six strikeouts. Taylor Drummonds paced the offense with two hits, a stolen base and she scored WHS's only run.
Hope LaPointe had a double, Allison Townsend had a hit and a stolen base, Riley Pudney and Nicole Dollar each had a hit.
The Pioneers (0-1) travel to West Forsyth on Friday.
McDowell defeated the WHS JV team 11-3 Tuesday afternoon. Megan Jackson suffered the loss. She gave up six runs on five hits in four innings of work. Jackson also had a pair of hits, including a double, and she also scored a run; Kristen Gill had two hits, including a triple. Savannah Drummonds had a hit and scored a run; Amie Sigmann singled; and Katie Replogle reached on an error and scored a run.
