Lenoir-Rhyne's Dawon Millwood and Sarah Atkins have been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher and Player Of The Week, respectively, league officials announced this afternoon. Both players led 18th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne (16-2) to an 8-0 week as the Bears ran their winning streak to nine contests in the process. Millwood, a senior from Hixson, Tenn., went 4-0 for the week with a 1.21 earned run average

and 34 strikeouts in addition to throwing two shutouts.
Millwood set the school record for career wins with her 74th victory in a 9-3 triumph over East Stroudsburg Sunday at the Catawba Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.
Last Monday, Millwood threw a two-hit shutout over Lees-McRae in game one of a doubleheader at home to help L-R Head Coach Shena Hollar win her 500th game as Bear mentor. Millwood, the 2011 South Atlantic Conference Pitcher Of The Week, is currently 8-1 on the season with a 1.50 ERA and 69 strikeouts. Atkins, a senior catcher from Newport News, Va., batted .450 (nine-of-20) with five home runs, 10 runs scored and 13 runs batted in for the week.
Atkins hit a home run in both games of a doubleheader sweep of Lees-McRae last Wednesday at home before hitting three home runs on the final day of the Catawba Invitational on Sunday. In the 10-2 victory over Barton, Atkins became the school's all-time leader in home runs (41) and runs batted in (164).
Atkins, a 2010 NCAA Division II Second-Team All-American, currently leads the Bears in home runs (six) and runs batted in (22) this year.  Lenoir-Rhyne next competes in the Mid-South Classic Tournament this weekend in Spartanburg, S.C., at the 295 Complex. L-R beings play on Friday at Glenville State beginning at 6:30 p.m.
