The accolades continue to roll in for Appalachian State University baseball following its series victory at No. 7 LSU this past weekend. On Monday, Appalachian moved into CollegeBaseballDaily.com’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll at No. 20. On Tuesday, CollegeBaseballInsider.com tabbed the Mountaineers as its national Team of the Week. Appalachian (4-2) won 2-of-3 games at six-time

national champion LSU this past weekend, dropping the opener, 4-0, before winning the final two contests of the series 1-0 and 11-1. The seventh-ranked Tigers, who came into the weekend averaging 11 runs per game and hitting .333 as a team, scored just five runs and hit .172 with only two extra-base hits in three games against the Mountaineers. LSU’s five runs were its fewest in a three-game home series since 1982, when it managed just four runs in three contests against Ole Miss.
The three-game series victory was ASU’s first-ever over a program from a Bowl Championship Series conference. The Mountaineers’ only previous series win over a BCS opponent came in 1985 when it swept a two-game set from Connecticut.
ASU comes into CBD’s mid-major poll ahead of perennially powerful programs such as Fresno State, Creighton and Coastal Carolina. The Apps’ recognition as CBI’s national Team of the Week caps two days of prominent coverage from the publication. On Monday, the Mountaineers were featured on the front page of both CBI’s and Baseball America’s websites.
Appalachian returns to action on Tuesday afternoon at North Carolina A&T. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro.
