WHS Soccer Wins Season Opener PDF Print

The Watauga women's soccer team blanked Ashe County 3-0 in its season opener Monday night in Boone. Hannah Younger backboned the offense with a pair of goals and an assists. Sierra Hill scored

the other WHS (1-0) goal; Lydia Mauney and Brittany Brown each had an assist.
"I saw a lot of good stuff and some things we need to improve on," said WHS coach Brittany Bolick. "But overall I was very pleased with out first showing tonight."
The Pioneers travel to Charlotte to play Charlotte Catholic Friday night. Wednesday's match with Asheville-Erwin has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Erwin overbooked and had too many games on its schedule.
The JV team won its season opener by knocking off Ashe County 4-3 Monday night. Brooklin Carroll had the hat-trick with three goals; Katherine Welsh had a goal and an assist.

 


WHS Golfers Finish Sixth


The Watauga High men's golf team finished sixth in its season opener Monday at the Catawba County Country Club. Hickory, the host school, and Alexander Central shared medalist honors team wise as they both teams fired an identical 156 score. The Pioneers finished sixth with a 170.
Alex Ryne of Alexander Central was the leading medalist as he carded a 33; Cameron Taylor paced WHS with a 40. Matt Byrum and Troy McNeil of the Pioneers each fired a 43; Austin Graham and Austin Northern each carded a 44; Dylan Cook had a 45. The WHS golf team travels to Lenior on Thursday for a four-team meet with Hibriten, West Caldwell and South Caldwell.
