Arrowood Named SoCon Pitcher Of Week PDF Print

Appalachian State senior Ryan Arrowood has been selected as the SoCon's Pitcher of the Week for all games from February 20-26. Arrowood turned in a stellar performance as he pitched

seven shutout innings to beat No. 7 LSU, 1-0, on Saturday. The senior right-hander retired 16 straight batters after facing a two-on, no-out jam in the first. He struck out five in a row twice during that stretch as the Rutherfordton, N.C., native retired 20 of the final 21 batters he faced and 20-of-23 overall. In total, Arrowood allowed just two hits and one walk and matched a career high with 10 strikeouts, as the Mountaineers became the first non-conference team to shutout the Tigers in nearly eight years.
Arrowood was named a second-team All-SoCon pre-season performer by the league coaches. In two appearances this season, Arrowood is 1-0 with a 1.64 earned-run-average.He's given up two earned runs on five hits with four walks and 16y strikeouts in 11 innings of work this season.
Arrowood, who has won 18 games with 175 strikeouts in his career at ASU, was 8-3 last season with a 2.96 ERA. The Mountaineers (4-2) travel to North Carolina A&T on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. game.
