The Lenoir-Rhyne University Baseball Team (3-12) fell in a close contest to No. 3 UNC Pembroke (11-1), 5-3, Wednesday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field. The Braves' Eitan Maoz (Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA) finished with

four hits and preseason All-American Braxton Lewis (Seven Springs, N.C.) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save of the year as UNC Pembroke ran its home winning streak to 18 games.
L-R opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when sophomore shortstop Mike Gasque (Mebane, N.C.) scored on a passed ball. Gasque tallied four hits on the day to lead the Bears.
UNC Pembroke quickly responded with four runs in its half of the first. Aaron Parnell (Benson, N.C.) had an RBI single in the frame while the Braves also took advantage of a Bear error to lead by a 4-1 score.
UNC Pembroke's J.J. Williams (Sicklerville, N.J.) added a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning before L-R scored twice in the sixth to cut the margin to 5-3.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman third baseman Mike Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.) and Gasque hit run-scoring singles in the frame but the Bears couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.
UNC Pembroke's Patrick McMahon (Charlotte, N.C.) (1-0) was credited with the win while Lenoir-Rhyne junior Ryan Reedy (Clearwater, Fla.) fell to 0-3 after suffering the loss. McMahon pitched 3.2 scoreless innings to go along with six strikeouts in the victory for the Braves.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Friday when the Bears play at Brevard beginning at 2:00 p.m. UNC Pembroke, meanwhile, faces No. 26 North Georgia on the road Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
